Last Post :(

Farwell Suckaaaaas. Just kidding, don’t get your panties in a bunch. This is my last required blog, number 10. Shout out to my professor Sweeney for exposing myself and my classmates to blogging. I was a little defense about it at first because I don’t enjoy writing in general, but I can honestly say I took great pleasure in writing these blogs, and wouldn't mind creating a “real” blog that could possibly include advice, and just my random thoughts. Blogging has its secret benefits. Blogging can increase creativity, allow one to think outside the box, one can become a better writer, and it also can put one in the public eye. I can obviously verify because I’m currently typing this post and have a pretty good blog if I may say so myself. On that note, I’m going to wrap this up. Keep looking out for a new blog link for my “advice, and just my random thoughts” blog. Bye guysssss. You’ve been lovely. Love ya :*

Just Thinking...

This week has been especially stressful because of the mountains of homework, essays, and whatever else these so- called teachers expect to be done by nearing dates. And when you think about it, it's only Tuesday.  So I got myself together and made a list of off the things that needed to be completed with the corresponding dates attached Monday afternoon. One thing in particular that caught my eye was the fact that another English blog was due. I figured after my eight o'clock I'd sprint to the library and start on it. I got up at 6:30 this morning, hopped in the shower as usual and began absorbing ideas about all the possible things I could write about. And that's when it hit me, thinking in the shower. And I know whoever is reading this is thinking, *scratches head* thinking in the shower? But really, has any "normal" individual like me taken five minutes out of their shower just to stand and think? I mean think about it, one may sit in a classroom for however long, and just can't seem to get those brain juices flowing, but somehow the cadence of falling water suddenly makes one feel passively engaged and full of thoughts and information. I don’t know about many of you, but I think showers should play a huge part in the daily activities that are instructed during class.

Dilemma's of a Disconnected Cell Phone

I mentioned in my previous blog entitled “The Hidden Agenda” that my phone is liable to cut off any day now because I wasn’t able to catch up with my phone bill. Well guess what IT’S OFF, and I’m seriously losing my mind. I’m assuming everyone knows the old cliché saying “you never miss a good thing till it’s gone.” It amazes me of the things we as a generation take for granted. Are we really that dependent on our cell phones? Don’t get me wrong, there are exceptions to everything, but it seems like without our phones we’re missing persons left in a jungle in the middle of nowhere. LOST. SOS? Luckily, I have an iPhone and can still text and use apps as long as I have wifi. Thank you Steve Jobs. But no thank you nTelos for disconnecting my phone without warning. I can’t get in contact with anyone unless I beg my roommates to use their phones, or travel across campus to use a RBC owned phone. I honestly feel like I live across the map, over in California and in actuality I’m 45 minutes away in Petersburg trying to reach family members in Richmond. What is life without a cellular device? There is none.

The Hidden Agenda

College, the place that teaches you how the world is financially screwing you over, while financially screwing you over. To the person(s) currently reading this, please take a few seconds to read to yourself over and over again the statement above. Heck, how about even taking a few minutes to spread the word to someone other than yourself. After consuming, devouring, and swallowing the opening statement. I don't know about you, but I'm about ready to regurgitate. I'm especially disgusted about how genuine those 19 little words are. Right on the money. Of those who haven't arrived at a titanic size stomach ache yet, allow me to quantitatively break it down for you through personal experience. Ever since enrolling into school, Richard Bland College, I've been introduced to financial slums. I'm literally in debt above my head, and I just recently turned 19. From financial aid not covering all my tuition, so I had to put a 1,000 dollar loan on my car (which is currently drawing interest and has doubled twice it's worth), to not being able to catch up with my phone bill because I'm past due (which is liable to cut off any day now), to not knowing if I should sacrifice spending five dollars on a quick, fast, and in a hurry meal at McDonalds, or head across the street to the nearest gas station just to make sure I make it home. You're hoping it'll all be worth it in the end, but there just seems to be no finish line, no time soon. Should I keep going and going until I'm drenched with sweat and my kneecaps are about to collapse, or just say "hey, this isn't for me" and make a quick u- turn?

Richmond Symphony

A few ago, I attended the Richmond Symphony to watch the Nutcracker Ballet. I tell you, if you haven’t visited a symphony, concert, ballet, or anything linking to the theater, you’re truly missing out. I’ll be honest I was a bit skeptical about going, but I figured I try it out. What a great experience. It was something different, but different in a good way.
The theater room was among one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. The lights were well laminated throughout the room to give a romantic and tender feel. The stage was full of live members of the symphony. You could clearly see the love and passion for their instrument, the music, the craft, and the art. The actors and actresses were dressed to par. The ballet was superb, definitely worth the expense. It was amazing to see how the crowd reacted to everything. Something that others would consider ‘lame’ or ‘boring’ was the total opposite to these people. The emotions on their faces were overwhelming and everyone begged for an encore.

So if you’re ever in Richmond, or any other cities who have a credible theater, be sure to stop by and enjoy the true beauty of classical music and the art of theater. I promise you won’t regret it.

Happy Birthday Sebastian!

Well today, November 26, 2013, is my cat Sebastian’s birthday, she turned two today. Now I know people may wonder if it was a grammatical mistake by calling Sebastian a “she,” but in actuality you’re wrong. Sebastian is a girl. Everyone always asks why did I name her that, and here it is. I used to watch Little Mermaid every night before I went to bed as a child and absolutely fell in love with Ariel’s best friend Sebastian the lobster. I always said the next time I get a pet, boy or girl it will be named Sebastian because it will be my best friend. There you have it and to think we really are best friends. Please don’t assume I’m going to end up being the old lady, alone with 20 cats. It’s just me and Sebastian have a deep bond that me and another could ever share. The love a human can have with their animal companion is amazing and quite cute. Anyway, happy birthday Sebastian, and I wish you many more! See you when I get home J

Military? Maybe?

I’ve been thinking about my future lately, and I’ve been considering going to the military. I’m not really sure which branch would fit me best, so I still need to do my research. A lot of military brats try to give me their opinion on which branch is easiest, hardest, largest, most respected, etc. I’ve narrowed it down to the navy or air force, but I’m sort of kind of scared of water and scared of heights. Something that I have to rid of before I join either one huh? I have people in my ear telling me I can’t do it, or I won’t make it, or once I sign that dotted line it won’t be what I expected. I guess it depends on the experience I get from it. But when people tell me that, it makes me more anxious to prove them wrong. I mean who wouldn’t take the opportunity? There’s always a spot for any and every one, you’ll always be protected, fed, housed, discounts, holidays, and best of all they pay for your schooling. You can’t beat it. Hopefully I can get recruited this summer.

When Will the Semester be Over?!

Is it just me or is everyone ready for this semester to be over with? I mean we’ve been coming to the same classes, looking at the same faces, listening to the same prolonged lectures by our professors. This semester seems as if it’s been going on for over a year now. I’m so ready for Spring semester as much as I’m anticipating Spring weather. Winter break is slowly approaching and I can not explain how excited I am. The count- down is slowly approaching and it’s starting to eat me alive. I don’t have much planned, but I do hope to sleep for hours without having to worry about alarms going off every five minutes because I’m hitting the snooze, or have mountains of homework to look forward to. Hopefully I can pick up more hours at work and start saving money. I can’t really work that much while I’m school, but I do what I can. Sometimes I feel like the only student on campus who actually works. Probably.

What's Up With the Weather?!

Good morning everyone! I’m not sure where everyone is located, but trust me you don’t want to be where I am this morning. It’s freezing here in Virginia, has been for weeks now. What’s up with the weather here lately? One day it reminds one of summer, and the next it’s winter. The weather changes so dramatically. You would swear it was bipolar. This is the time of year when everyone tends to get sick of course. I know I caught a slight cold. My throat is practically begging for reliefs from the constant coughing, my eyes are red, including my nose. If one didn’t know better they would swear I was Rudolph. I hate being sick. The only significance was actually having a legitimate excuse to not show up to classes, but then again back fired because I’m now behind. I’ve laid up in bed for a few days. My parents have forced prescription drugs down my throat and nothing seems to subside my condition. I used to love sleeping in, but now I dread it because I toss and turn and have the most random nightmares. I love eating chicken soup though. It warms my whole body like a fire was lit in the pit of my stomach. It relaxes me and makes me feel slightly better.

It's a New Year and a New Semester here at RBC

It’s a new year and a new semester here at RBC. A lot has changed both good and bad. My classes so far have been as smooth as butter. They seem to be pretty straight forward, yet complex, and intriguing. My professors seem to be pretty cool, know what they’re talking about, playful, but serious when it’s time. I’m ready to take the bull by the horns, put the BS to the side and get down to work. Last year I didn’t take classes as serious as I should have. I guess I was too caught up in trying to discover the perks of “college.” I just found myself in a financial wreck, and my GPA deplete right before my eyes. But this year will be different. This year is my last year to prove I am ready for a four year institution and ready to finally graduate and move on from Richard Bland. I’m pretty excited about this semester and year overall and can’t wait to see how it all pans out.

Boston Marathon Explosion

Adding to the list of tragedies that have happened in America in the ending months of 2012, and beginning months on 2013, the Boston Marathon explosion. I’m pretty sure everyone has heard and acquired details, and have also formulated their own opinion about the horrific hardship. To those who are uninformed, there were two explosions that occurred about four hours after the Boston Marathon. As runners were crossing the finish line, the explosions took place. According to several sources, at least three individuals were killed and more than 170 individuals were injured. Of the individuals killed by the blast, was an eight year old girl. Fortunately, according to other sources, the suspects of this sad crime have been brought to light. The suspects were apparently brothers. One was shot during a gun fight between himself and police and the other was taken into custody. I’m honestly just appalled at the country/ world that we live in and call home. It’s almost as if every morning I turn on the T.V. there’s some type of breaking news and it’s never good news. The United States needs to ACT united and help make the country/ world we live in a better place for its citizen and residences.

Sleep Break

-          Hello fellow bloggers and blog readers. It’s been a while. Haven’t posted much since Spring Break. I hope everyone enjoyed theirs. I enjoyed mine. Want to know why? You probably don’t care to know why and I don’t care if you don’t care because I just need something to talk about. (The goal is to have right around 200 words by the end of this blog.) Anyways, I absolutely took great pleasure in my break. It was a break well needed and deserved. All I did was sleep. Yep that’s right, SLEEP. People assume break, especially Spring Break generally consist of enjoying the weather, the sun on your skin, relaxing at the beach with friends and family, partying out of your mind, no homework, and definitely no sleep. Well, the weather wasn’t prepared for spring, it snowed majority of the time, I had tons of homework, and was heavily entertained by sleep. I was heartbroken at the thought that break was coming to an end and by Monday I was destroyed. I didn’t want it to stop. It was almost like I was awaken out of a fantasy and was brought back to reality. It was time to get back to the basics at Bland.

Happy Valentine's Day Suckaaaa's

- Happy Valentine's Day. Ahh who am I kidding? Valentine's Day sucks. There's no doubt about it. Everyone is running around advertising, and announcing their love and guaranteeing their eternal emotion and devotion for one another. It makes me sick to my stomach. I honestly believe if someone genuinely cared and was concerned about you. You would see and hear it more often than once a year. I mean think about it, every year, you're presented with a cheap box of chocolates, CVS flowers, and a .99 cent Valentine card picked by the blind. Is it just a cover up for all the wrong doings in the relationship? Don't get me wrong. I am not a single woman grilling everyone else who is dating. I'm just being me: real. I someone to love me based upon their personal choice and feelings, not because some heart shaped holiday card sponsored by Hallmark forced them. Anyways, hope everyone enjoyed their day. <3

What's the Big Deal?

- "Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light ... Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight ... And the star- spangled banner in triumph shall wave. O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!" We've all heard these words before.  It is traditionally played at the beginning of public sports events and orchestral concerts in the United States, as well as other public gatherings. This year it was sung during Barack Obama's Presidential Inauguration. The National Anthem is often criticized for the way it's sung, whether done bad, or lip synced. Unfortunately Beyoncé was a victim of lip syncing. Word spread like wild fire through radio play, and he say, she say, which eventually led to a press conference about whether she did it or not. She was more than happy to admit to it and was satisfied with her performance. I personally didn't understand the dramatics over if she did it and why. We've all witnessed Beyoncé sing hundreds of time without lip syncing and she sounds astounding each and every time, so what's the big deal? She's proven her credibility more than once. People seem to never be satisfied. So may I ask again, what's the big deal?

Freezinggg in the Rain..

- What’s up with the weather in Virginia lately? Relaxing in the warm sun on Monday, putting on our rain boots, warm clothes, coats, and opening umbrellas on Tuesday, by Wednesday one would think it’s Christmas morning, and by Thursday, everyone is sick. And what’s even more bizarre is the fact we (myself, and the other residential students here at Richard Bland College) have to walk to class regardless. Imagine walking in 18 degree weather for over 10 minutes to go to a pointless class that only last 50 minutes. The only thing that would come out of that experience is a red nose and a slight cold afterwards. Commuters have the advantage to come and go as they please, and crank the heat up as we freeze. I strongly believe that either we, the residential students get to drive to class or even use some of that good old tuition to invest in “E- Z Up’s” which are basically shelters to protect from the rain or snow during an event, but in this case while we’re walking to class. Matter of fact I have a better idea, run shuttle buses on campus to pick us up and drop us off every 15 like downtown bus lines. Until then, I guess it’s just take the risk of getting sick, or just not show up to class today. Which would you choose?
